Respected Child Birth… What is it?

by | Sep 28, 2021

Respected childbirth is not about giving up medical technology. It is not about giving birth as it was done centuries ago. It is not to avoid a cesarean section at all costs, endangering the life of the mother and baby. It is not about giving birth in a bathtub or without an epidural. It is not about disregarding science.

It is about respecting the physiology of childbirth and the scientific advances shown to benefit both mother and baby. It is about respecting the real needs of women; physical, emotional and cultural. It respects the right of women to an explanation regarding any necessary intervention. It provides a woman with a climate of intimacy, trust and support. It respects the freedom of women to make informed decisions. It promotes the mother-child bond.
